Recording - done. Mixing - next!

This weekend we finished up the recording of our new album. It was a joyous occasion. This week I've got some days off work to spend sitting at home adjusting the sounds of VST synthesizer plug-ins and walking around parties with a mini-disc player and a microphone caputing party spirit. Maybe try and be really pretentious and record some silence up on the Moors ("Now I'm recording Tony fucking Wilson" etc)

So the mixing process finally begins. Soon. Don't know when though.

Our good mate Andrew MacDonald should be handling artwork duties, go check out his blog: http://thatmackyguy.blogspot.com/

More updates later with some more shitty photos and videos.

MP3

HI. WHILST WE FINISH RECORDING OUR NEW ALBUM, WE THOUGHT WE'D BE REALLY KIND AND DIG UP A PIECE OF OUR HISTORY TO SHARE WITH YOU! YOU CAN DOWNLOAD, FOR FREE, THE SONG "SHAPES & SQUARES" WHICH WE RECORDED IN OUR OLD GUITARIST SELINA'S BEDROOM BACK IN 2004 WITH OUR FRIEND JP COOPER SINGING WITH US. THE SONG ORIGINALLY WOUND UP ON OUR "MONSTERS! MONSTERS!" DEMO, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN LEFT OFF ALL MP3 VERSIONS OF THE DEMO THAT SEEM TO BE FLOATING ABOUT ON THE INTERNET. SO HOPEFULLY YOU'LL ENJOY THIS SLICE OF DFA MYSTERY HISTORY!

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT RIGHT NOW HERE: http://rapidshare.com/files/198072121/Day_For_Airstrikes_-_Shapes_And_Squares.mp3

2 days of recording left!

Hello folks
We just got confirmation tonight that our last two days recording will be on the 21st and 28th of Feb, with mixing beginning 1st March. This is exciting!

While we've been on a temporary hiatus from recording we've kept ourselves busy with our other musical adventures. My album Lake & Tree & Me got completed and released, Adam and Wes played their first shows with their band Eskimo Cowboy, and Simpson has been playing endless amounts of shows with King Vulture. In addition to this I've joined forces with our friends in Hail Brethren for some mysterious new project which we'll put more info up about as and when we can.

Back on topic, the album, which has a title!!!!, will hopefully be finished up by the end of March. Almost 9 months spent making this big bastard. Hope you like it as much as we do!

Borland

Hi

My electronica band, Borland, have our debut album available to buy online right now. It's an eclectic mix of skittish electronic beats, warm synths, soft guitars and piano madness, with the occasional cut-up vocal thrown in for good measure.

It is available here:
http://www.amazon.com/Lake-Tree-Me/dp/B001M5DNIS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1228909381&sr=8-2

Or if you're in the UK, have a look on the UK Amazon site. It's also available at a shedload of other places, that I will link to later. Thanks!

Broken jaws, unfinished albums

A few weeks ago, our multi-instrumentalist cheeky-boy Wes got assaulted on a night out and got his jaw broken in two places, which meant that he had to have surgery and lots of rest. He's had another bit of surgery this weekend so it's meant that we've had to pull out of a few shows, so sorry if you were coming to any of them and didn't see us there.

While he's been in a bed either at his home or at hospital, we did a little more recording with Jon Fearon from the lovely band The Longcut. We finished off the guitars (finally!) and we started work on the trombone/flugle/trumpet sections, which sound pretty sexy so far. I also got to go nuts with a megaphone and lots of delay on one of the weirder songs on the record called "Cosmic Horse" and started work on a really nice synth song which will lead into the last couple of songs on the record.

We just need to get back in and finish up work on the brass then hopefully that'll be the end of it and we can finally get it out and stop stressing so much about it. This is the longest we've ever spent on recording and it's both frustrating and rewarding in equal measures. If anyone wants to just give us some money to help us fund completing the fucker we'd be very very appreciative!

Weekends

Thanks to everyone who came to see us with Cats And Cats And Cats, Cats In Paris and Ladycop over the weekend. We had a lot of fun at the house party on Saturday, then more good, clean fun in Preston the following night. It was good! They are all super awesome dudes.

We will be finishing off the recording of our forthcoming album next week. Playing the songs live over the weekend got me really excited about it - even though when we play them live they are a bit messy and raucous, on disc they sound pretty lovely.

Thanks a lot to Chris and his girlfriend for the totally mint sticker they gave us! Unicorns are pretty mysterious. As are we.

Anyway, time to get back to work.
